Overall employment in personal care and service occupations is projected to grow 14 percent over the next ten years, much faster than the average for all occupations; this increase is expected to result in about 544,800 new jobs over the decade. In addition to new jobs from growth, opportunities arise from the need to replace workers who leave their occupations permanently. About 762,600 openings each year, on average, are projected to come from growth and replacement needs.
Personal care and service occupations have a median annual wage of $29,450, which is lower than the median annual wage for all occupations of $45,760.
Animal Care and Service Workers
Animal care and service workers attend to or train animals. Working with pets and other nonfarm animals, these caretakers and trainers feed, groom, and exercise the animals or teach them to respond to human commands.
Barbers, Hairstylists, and Cosmetologists
Barbers, hairstylists, and cosmetologists provide haircutting, hairstyling, and a range of other beauty services.
Childcare Center Directors
Preschool and childcare center directors supervise and lead their staffs, design program plans, oversee daily activities, and prepare budgets. They are responsible for all aspects of their center’s program.
Childcare Workers
Childcare workers attend to children's needs while helping to foster early development. They may help younger children prepare for kindergarten or assist older children with homework.

Gambling Services Workers
Gambling services workers serve customers in gambling establishments, such as casinos or racetracks. These workers tend slot machines or deal cards, take bets or pay out winnings, and supervise or manage gambling workers and operations.
Home Health Aides and Personal Care Aides
Home health and personal care aides monitor the condition of people with disabilities or chronic illnesses and help them with daily living activities. They often help older adults who need assistance.
Manicurists and Pedicurists
Manicurists and pedicurists clean, shape, and beautify fingernails and toenails.
